Sister St. John was for almost 50 years the mulier fortis at St. Michael's College, noted especially for her intellectual vigor and her skill at Latin prose composition. Yet when she began her teaching career in primary school, her critical teacher was so impressed by her understanding that he told her she should always teach little children. Her tireless work in the education of Latin teachers was recognized by Woodsworth College's establishing an annual award in her honor, and St. Michael's College perpetuates her memory in the St. John Scholars, a student group devoted to intellectual values, common worship, and community service.
