NOTES

Alexander Wilcox got a late start on his career, not receiving his college degree until 12 years after his graduation from Baltimore City College. The Ph.D. followed quickly, as did study in Athens and with Gildersleeve, before Wilcox settled for the rest of his life in Lawrence, publishing nothing, but teaching Greek to generations of Kansans, into his 80th year.
