NOTES

John Garrett Winter, educator, author, and administrator, was for nearly half a century a teacher of classics in his native Michigan. After a short period at Hope College, Winter began a long, distinguished career at the University of Michigan. He originated the publication Ars Islamica and served as chairman of the Committee on Scholarly Publications for the University of Michigan Press.
