  • Notes:

Following service in World War I in the Army Ambulance Corps, for which he won the Croix de Guerre, Robinson completed his graduate work at Illinois under W. A. Oldfather. In Urbana he met a fellow student, Rachel Sargent, who ultimately became his wife when both were in their early forties. His Suetonius edition was well received and his Germania was reprinted 56 years after its initial publication. His career was also marked by an expert ability in palaeography and editing and Robinson specialized in Iberian palaeography, particularly Visigothic manuscripts, dividing his career between research trips to Spain, France, and Italy and decanal service to the University of Cincinnati. Despite a massive heart attack in 1941, he continued his decanal duties until his health forced him into early retirement. His wife Rachel cared for him while maintaining her own research career.
